the best part of waking up is not giving a fuck
coffee + avocado toast + routines + reddit university + the sims 4
There is nothing more satisfying than a gigantic mug of coffee and some delicious avocado toast for breakfast.
This is how I started my day today. A filling, high-protein breakfast and my usual jolt of caffeine. It’s a simple thing, and it’s a big part of my day. I’m leaning into being more intentional about starting my day off right.
The way my day starts has a huge impact on how my day goes. Being in the right frame of mind is important. Starting the day off positively is important.
I used to wake up every morning and spend at least 30 minutes journaling, but I fell out of that habit. I’m getting back into it.
I have an editorial consulting contract that has me collaborating with a mostly East Coast crew, so getting up earlier — even though I said I didn’t want to do it ever again after leaving The Root — is a thing now if I want to be on the same timeline as everyone else.
This brings Atomic Habits back into play.
I need a (new) routine
I’ve been freelancing since the day I left The Root, and I’ve made not having to be anywhere on anyone else’s schedule a personality trait. I have a routine; it just doesn’t involve waking up early in the morning to start getting things done.
I’ve realized over the last month or so that I could truly benefit from some extra hours in the day, and perhaps getting up early isn’t so bad after all.
It’s a thing reserved for doctor’s appointments and when I have to interview someone for a story, but it’s not a thing I make a regular habit of.
I find I now have so many things I want to do in a day, I need more time to do them.
reddit university
Am I the only one who adds “reddit” to the end of a search on Google?
I’ll be like “if I eat these eggs will I die reddit” because the experts of Reddit University know everything.
I could be trying to find out about a new product at Trader Joe’s or wondering how people are successfully running brothels in The Sims 4 (let’s put a pin in that), and Reddit will have the answer for me within a few clicks.
I know I’m not the only one.
The Sims 4
Speaking of The Sims, they have a new expansion pack that lets you run a small business. You can either buy a lot to put the small business on, or you can run it from your home.
At Reddit University, I learned that some people have made that small business a brothel, and they are successfully running it with customers paying by the hour to enjoy time with the people who work at the brothel.
I am amused and aghast at the same damn time. I also want to try this and see what happens.
I’ve also learned that people have figured out how to use the club system to get free farm workers to help with their animals and their crops so they can make good money off of it.
When I shared this recently on social media, my cousin OJ said The Sims should be called “The Red Flags Game” because it exposes people for who they truly are.
“That game will show you the worst in people if you look close enough even for a split second. It's hilarious,” he wrote.
He, like I, made the connection between slavery and what the people are doing on The Sims 4.
Of course, no one doing the club members as farm help are calling it slavery, and I certainly haven’t seen anyone saying they’ve been playing it as such.
I just immediately thought, “Wow. They’ve recreated slavery on The Sims” when I read that post.
I didn’t comment though. Reddit is 4chan with better aesthetics.
in summation
I just ate two 10mg sativa gummies. The kitchen is already clean, the dishwasher is running, I finished this blog post, and I’m going to play The Sims for a bit before retiring for the evening.
Don’t worry.
I’m not going to start a plantation.
I'ma need the title of this article in jingle form
Amen and amen! 🙌🏽
SN: avocado toast has especially been the move since The Egg Games started. lol
