The shirt in my header photo sums me up quite well.
Give me a good book, a good cup of coffee, and a space where I can enjoy both peacefully, and I am in heaven.
There were 5 executions in the U.S. this week
Five people were put to death in the U.S. this week.
Freddie Owens was put to death in South Carolina on Friday, Sept. 20.
On Tuesday, we bore witness to a lynching when Khaliifah ibn Rayford Daniels 'Abdul-Qudduus a.k.a. Marcellus Williams was killed in the state of Missouri.
Travis Mullins was also put to death on Tuesday by the state of Texas.
On Thursday, both Alan Eugene Miller (Alabama) and Emmanuel Littlejohn (Oklahoma) were executed.
AP called this “an unusually high number of executions that defies a yearslong trend of decline in both the use and support of the death penalty in the U.S.”
With regard to Imam Khaliifah, I’m going to let you read the words of
:The Sean Combs column
I finally finished my Sean column, and dare I say I put my foot in that shit? I can’t wait for y’all to read it.
Every time I thought I was done, I thought of something else and went back to add to it. Thankfully, my editor let me know it wouldn’t be running until later this morning, so that gave me some leeway to keep tweaking it over the last few days.
That said, I’m glad it’s in a space where I feel done with it because living that out as I wrote it was a lot. I needed a breather after that.
There's no defending Sean Combs
“Reality” Television
Do you watch Selling Sunset?
It’s one of those things I watch a bit of and then lose interest and drop it suddenly. I’m currently back on after picking back up on the seventh season last week.
I’ve reached the eighth season, and boy is it terrible.
Because this show is about a group of real estate agents, one of the bigger draws is getting to see all the expensive, luxury homes they show off when they get listings. In between all that, you get a lot of the interpersonal drama between agents in the office.
In the earlier seasons, there was clear villain in Christine Quinn, but once she left, the title was up for grabs, and none of the other girls seems up for the challenge because even as they want to get as much screen time as possible, they also want to be liked by their peers and the viewing audience.
After all, how are you supposed to be taken seriously as a real estate agent when you are spending all your time on a show about selling houses discussing who is doing what with their pussy, stirring up trouble, and minding everyone’s business but your own?
They are very unserious.
Anyway, I said all that to say that this latest season is scripted so poorly, I feel like it may be time for them to end the series and go back to being luxury real estate agents wearing high end fashions.
They are really good at the high end fashions.
off the record
Look at me hitting y’all with three blog posts in a row.
The last few nights have been like 1999-2006 all over again, when I used to stay up late at night working on blog posts and learning to use the tools of the time including HTML, CSS, WordPress, Blogger, Movable Type and GrayMatter.
I kinda like being a night owl again. I think I feel my most creative at night.
I write my posts at night and schedule them to push out in the morning.
I’m still learning a lot about Substack, and I like what I’m seeing.
Expect to see me experimenting with some of its features soon.
If you view this on the web, you will see a “Notes” tab in the navigation bar.
Substack Notes is basically their “social media” system. You can post from the web and using the Substack app if you have an account.
I highly encourage downloading and using the Substack app. It makes it very simple to see all of the Substacks you are subscribed to in one place.
I share a lot of posts from other people in Substack Notes, and if you are a writer looking to be in community with other word nerds like yourself, Substack Notes is where it’s at.
I promise this is not a commercial.
Thank you!
