I love my nails, but I hate the nail shop
nails, books, TV, and music
I’m going to be honest about something.
For me, there is nothing relaxing about going to get my manicure and pedicure every two weeks.
I know mani/pedis are considered a form of pampering and self-care and all that, and I see it as a form of pampering myself to be honest, but the actual experience of sitting in the chair and getting my hands and feet done is one I wish I could fast forward through and get to the end when my shit looks all cute and I’m thanking my nail tech and giving her a nice tip caue her work is awesome.
It’s not about my nail tech. My nail tech is awesome. She’s sweet, can give me any design I can think of, and she takes her time to make sure everything is perfect. I love my nail tech, and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
Mani/pedis aren’t like a massage, where you can lie there and drift off as someone kneads your muscles and makes you feel better.
Mani/pedis are a participation sport. You can’t just sit there quietly. You have to lift your foot this way, hold your hand that way, put in the UV curer, take it out of the UV curer. You have to help your nail tech help you.
That’s not relaxing.
And that’s not even getting into exactly how uncomfortable those spa chairs are, especially if the shop in question has older chairs.
There some kind of pole/stick/whatever that is part of the massaging mechanism, and it seems to find its way right up against my tailbone or booty hole every time I sit in that chair.
Sir/ma’am. I don’t know you like that, chair! Why you trying to kick in my back door?! I’m a virgin back there.
OK, I lied. I’m not a virgin back there for real, but I also learned pretty early through experimentation that getting my back door kicked in is not a fun time, and it’s definitely not a fun time while I’m trying to get my toes polished. Please allow me the dignity of focusing on one struggle at a time.
Thank you.
All that said, bitch, my nails be looking good as fuck, so I wrote this to not only talk about how the nail shop is not a relaxing experience even if I come out extremely satisfied every single time, but also to talk about the fact that my nails be looking the fuck good, and now you are about to sit here and scroll through pictures of the various nail designs I’ve had over the last 6 months since we last spoke.
I’m back, bitches.
I know you missed me.
Miscellaneous:
They was in the Starbucks fighting over cups and teddy bears today. It’s all over TikTok. Could not be me, baby. Y’all got it.
I’ve been rewatching The Good Wife lately. I’m going slow. It takes me about two days to finish an episode because I have way too many other things going on, like work (more on that at another time), but I like this show a lot.
I’m also reading James by Percival Everett, and so far, it’s a great book! I’ll circle back with a review when I finish it.
Are we all loving and rooting for Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson?
In case you missed the announcement, I am now the managing editor/site lead of NewsOne, and I absolutely love my job.

So glad i'm not alone 😭😂I absolutely love having my nails/toes done but dread the act/experience of getting them done. I be so impatient 😭Love your nails btw!
I bet your nails are always hot!
I love doing my nails. (I am too "frugle" for paying someone). I do them myself and find it so relaxing! On top of that, my nails be looking like they was put on professionally! I like to add to them my own little flairs. But you are right, it can be so nice to have someone else do it --- as long as they aren't knocking on the back door!
